Test the handoff, not just the voice.
A practical evaluation for AI and live answering services, built around the next person who needs to act.

Use the same scenarios.
Give each service a routine inquiry, an unclear request, an unsupported question and a situation that needs a human. Use non-sensitive examples. Compare what the caller hears and what your team receives afterward.
Ask how the service handles interruptions and incomplete information. A smooth greeting can conceal a poor record; a good evaluation looks at the whole first-contact experience.
Be explicit about what counts as done.
Taking an appointment request is not the same as confirming a booking. Drafting a message is not the same as delivering it. Ask each provider to distinguish those states, explain connection requirements and show what happens when an action cannot complete.
Leave space for human expertise.
Different services suit different conversations. Choose around your actual needs, capacity and support terms, rather than assuming AI or a human service is automatically the answer.
